Just because it’s cold, there’s no need to sacrifice style. In fact, cold weather is the perfect time to use accessories and tiny details to make your outfits stand out.
Recently, my detail of choice has been the zipper. It’s sexy without screaming for attention, accentuating the curves and lines of one’s body.
Most of the time, a zipper simply functions as a way to enclose a garment, like a skirt or even a jacket. However, there is a trend where metal ones are used as an accessory on clothing other than jeans. The teeth of the zipper are usually gold, silver or some other metallic color, and it is paired with fabric that is slightly tougher, for example, leather. So you know all those leather leggings and pants that have the zips at the bottom or on the side? That’s strategic. It’s only in 2013 that fashion designers began to make this “functional closure into an attention-grabbing zipper detail.” So today, we now see clothing that have zips but in innovative ways. They might be installed in a slant, a curve or in multiples. The question is,
“How do you wear this edgy detail in more than one item and still look chic?’
Because, let’s be honest, it could end up looking tacky….and tacky ain’t cute!
The other day, I tried out an idea I had – pairing my leather skirt with a statement zipper detail and my favorite blue blazer with similar details as pockets. I can’t lie, I was a little concerned that it might turn out to be too much but I was pleasantly surprised. What I created as a result wasn’t just edgy chic, it was a flawless, versatile, girl-boss outfit for the day.
Now that you’ve seen that you can effortlessly pair garments that have zipper details, are you going to join me in my frenzy?
