Who would’ve thought that my body would be able to house such a miracle?

Not too long ago, I was sitting on my exercise body ball while working from home in eager anticipation of my baby girl’s arrival.

After I had been to the doctor that weekday morning, I had discovered that my cervix was dilated to 3 cm and it was only a matter of time before I’d be heading to the hospital.

In my head, I wasn’t ready. But it was a little to late for that. Things were about to get real.

My Smooth Delivery

Around 2:41 AM, I woke up with a strong, unexpected pain in the lower half of my body.

I thought, “Maybe these are contractions?” but then I decided that what I was experiencing simply felt like the first day of my period so I could handle it. No big deal. And back to sleep I went.

But nah fam.

By 4 AM, the pain I felt had doubled, leaving me on the floor, doubled over with a grimace on my face, and whimpering like a puppy.

My husband, who woke up as a result of my groaning, looked at me and said two simple words, “It’s time!

Within a few minutes, we were out the door and off to the hospital.

My water hadn’t broken but dear God, those contractions were getting worse — aka closer and longer.

Upon our arrival, we entered the triage room where the nurses checked my cervix again to see how dilated I was, and after some difficulty (because I hate the cervix test), they were able to ascertain that I was now at 4 cm. It was then my husband, and my hero, immediately asked the nurse to administer the epidural.

We can definitely do that after we move her to the delivery room,” the nurse replied.

In my head, I screamed ‘Amen,‘ and not too long after my arrival to the delivery room did I receive that magical epidural.

Once that kicked in, I was finally able to rest. I even took a nap! However, a few hours later, it was time to push and push I did!

Within 20 minutes, I heard the sweet cry of my baby girl for the first time.

She was here. She was actually here.

Welcome Miya!

When the doctor placed her in my arms, a rush of emotions came over me, including awe, love and pure shock.

Here was the beautiful tiny human my husband and I had been waiting nine months to meet. It seemed so surreal. And to solidify our new reality, I looked at hubby and said,

Oh my gosh babe, we’re parents.

And with an excited yet tender smile, he agreed,

Yes we are babe. Welcome Miya! You are so loved and I believe you’re going to change the world.
